Know how Ramanand Sagar started Ramayana and how much struggle he had done

Filmmaker-director Ramanand Sagar went to Switzerland in 1976 to shoot his film Charas. One evening he went to a pub and ordered red wine. The waiter placed a large wooden box with wine on the table. Ramananda looked at the box. The waiter removed the shutter it was a TV. Ramanand Sagar was amazed as he saw colour television for the first time in his life. Five minutes later, he decided that he would leave the cinema and now his aim would be to show the stories of Lord Ram, Krishna and Maa Durga to the people through television.
in India, T.V started in 1959. It was then called Television India. Very few people had access to it. In 1975, it got a new name Doordarshan. Till then it was limited to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, till the 1982 Asian Games started to be broadcast all over the country. The expected success of 'Buniyaad' and 'Hum Log' in 1984 further increased the popularity of TV.
Here Ramanand Sagar was enthusiastically preparing for Ramayana. But his colleagues described the entry in TV was as committing suicide. Leaving a good position in the cinema and going to TV is still a suicide for the filmmaker. but Ramanand continued in his most obsolete work. Nobody agreed to invest his money on this work.
Somehow he brought his first serial 'Vikram Aur Betal'. The serial was very successful. Audiences of every age group appreciated it. from here that special effects started appearing on TV. Doordarshan has given permission to Vikram and Vetal, but Doordarshan and congress (INC) didn't like the concept of Ramayana From here the sad chapter of Ramanand's life began.
However, Doordarshan agreed to telecast the 'Ramayana' but the then Congress government was not agreeing to this. Doordarshan officials took permission from the government to give Ramanand Sagar a slot. All these were written by Ram Sagar's son Prem Sagar in a book. So there was a contradiction in the political corridors of Delhi regarding the Ramayana. Information and Broadcasting Minister BN Gadgil feared that this serial would not only instil a sense of pride among Hindus but also the rapidly emerging Bharatiya Janata Party would benefit from it. However, Rajiv Gandhi's intervention calmed the protest.

Earlier, Ramanand had to fight very hard. He used to make rounds of Delhi to allow Doordarshan to allow Ramayana, but governments intervention was also prevalent in Doordarshan. For hours, he stood in Mandi House waiting for his turn. Sometimes he would stay at the Ashoka Hotel, in the hope that sometimes he would get a call. Once, DD officials insulted him for the Ramayana dialogues. This was also the time when the feet of Film director like Ramanand Sagar started getting dislocated due to Dubai's underworld. The influence of Dubai was growing, which further transformed into Dawood Industry.
In 1986 Ajit Kumar Panja took charge of information and broadcasting and Ramayana was entered into Doordarshan. The epic began on 25 January 1987 on D.D.  By lord Ram's grace, the serial became such a hit that a voluntary public curfew was imposed on the streets on Sunday morning.
Each episode cost a million, which was a huge amount for Doordarshan at that time. The fame of Ram became Arun Govil and Sita Deepika Chikhaliya, she became equal to film actors. Deepika Chikhaliya She was respected as Sita.
Now Nataraja Studio became the centre of the movement of sadhus. Many sadhus used to come there to meet Ramanand. One day a young monk came to him. He noted that the monk's ora is very stunning. The monk said that he has brought his Guru's message from the Himalayas. Immediately the gestures of the monk changed. He said, "Whom are you so afraid of, give up your pride." You are creating Ramayana, make it fearless. People like you have been chosen for awareness. Soon India will become the head of the world. '
and now Satyam Shivam Sundaram returned to Doordarshan after many years !!
